EXTRAORDINARY KENYA CAMPING SAFARI

Posted in Kenyan Safari  by admin

The only way to truly experience the magic of Kenya is by going on a camping safari. We wanted to experience this moment to the fullest, so we decided to camp in the bush. On our first day we explored the city of Nairobi by a guided tour. We then drove to the Kenyan and Tanzanian border to our campsite in Amboseli National Park. We had a late lunch, drove around exploring, and then returned to our campsite. We then had supper by the fire and rested up for day two.

On day two, we awoke to some of the most magnificent vistas we have ever seen. We enjoyed seeing Mount Kilimanjaro and all the existing wildlife in the area. We stopped at a shady spot and had a picnic. We then returned to camp and as we sat around the fire, we heard the roar of the king of the jungle. We could also hear hyenas laughing and whooping far away. They sky was clear and full of a million stars.

We went to Lake Nakura. There were so many flamingos that I couldn’t count them.  This area has many birds here.  Next we went to Lake Bogoria, also known as The Jewel of the Great Rift Valley. This lake had hot sulfur water that came up from the ground. We traveled to Lake Baringo, the home of the Njemps tribe. Their tribe eats fish, which most other tribes consider taboo. The Njemps were very friendly and interesting people.

I am also going to tell you about our other camping safari we took in Biribriet. This Kenya safari has been called the haven for nature addicts. It is the best off the beaten track safari in Kenya, Africa. Kenya has a mixture of desert, coastal, and mountain terrain. One of my most enjoyable moments was seeing the scenic waterfalls and rivers deep in the Nambi.

We made camp near Eldoret for the night. We could hear many frogs near the river. We decided to walk to the river and see them. Our guide said that they come out at night and this was the best time to see them. There we saw reed frogs, tiny water frogs, and big grass frogs. The next morning when I walked back to the river, there weren’t any frogs to be seen. Next on our agenda was a walk to Chepkiit Waterfall. Here we saw harrier hawks and horn bills.

A Kenya camping safari is the only way to see Africa as it should be seen. You are separated from this vast array of nature by only the clothes you are wearing. You get to experience how the African tribes have lived for so many centuries. This Kenya safari was the most remarkable journey I have experienced in my life.

TANZANIAN SAFARI TOURS

Posted in Tanzanian Safari  by admin

I recently got the chance to go on the Great Northern Circuit Tanzania Safari. We left the Arusha Airport wit our Tanzanian guide. We drove over The Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive. Lake Manyara was gorgeous with the tropical trees and vast, lush vegetation.  Zebras, giraffes, and elephants reside here.  This park also has hippos and many different types of monkeys. There is also a variety of birdlife, such as flamingos and pelicans. We then spent the night at E Unoto Retreat.

The next morning we passed the Oldonyo Lengai volcano on our way to Lake Natron.  We rode down to the lake and sat for hours watching the many flamingos. We spent the night in a tented camp at Lake Natron.

The next day we headed to the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania. While at the Serengeti we saw lions, zebras, and giraffes. We also saw many varieties of the Serengeti birdlife. We took a game drive close to the migration. The landscape was so vibrant and alive. As we camped overnight in a tent, I marveled at the beauty of Tanzania and all its wildlife.

The next day we drove to Lake Victoria. That afternoon we drove to rural Africa. We drove to the villages of the Sakuma people. The Sakumas keep livestock and grow cotton. The Sakumas live just as their ancestors have always lived. We then returned to the Serengeti, where we fell into an exhausted sleep.

We were lucky enough to have arrived during the time of the great migration. It took our breath away as we saw the wildebeests and zebras make their yearly trek across Serengeti, Tanzania. I think our Tanzanian guide was a magician, because he could find animals so easily, even when they weren’t seemingly obvious to us as they hid in their environment. We even saw a lion with his kill. Now that is definitely something you don’t see everyday. Tanzania, Africa is one of the only places in the world to see these things. We then traveled to the Serengeti/Ngorongoro Lodge for the night.

We then drove to the Ngorongoro Crater. This crater has walls that are 2, 00 feet high. Since these walls are so high most animals don’t migrate here. We got to see many lions, jackals, elephants, zebras, and hippos. We camped overnight again and were lullabied to sleep by the sound of the laughing hyenas.

We then traveled for a walking safari with the Maasai Tribe. They took us on a tour of their hunting trails that they use every day. The Maasai Tribe lives in harmony with the wildlife and their environment.

When we left the next day for our return trip home, I knew that I would always carry a little piece of Tanzania with me in my heart.
